When the editorial office of Journal of Physics A: Mathematical and General of the Institute of Physics Publishing asked me to review a book on nonlinear dynamics I experienced an undeniable apprehension. Indeed, the domain is a rapidly expanding one and writing a book aiming at a certain degree of completeness looks like an almost impossible task. I think Strogatz's Nonlinear Dynamics and Chaos is a good introduction. A course's worth of his lectures teaching a class with this text is available online, as well.

The lectures are on the YouTube channel "Cornell MAE" as a playlist. This is the book for nonlinear dynamics. Strogatz's writing is not only easy to follow, but is also pleasant, conversational, and at times even a bit whimsical. The book opens with very simple material, and while it eventually touches on some fairly advanced ideas (eg renormalization), it builds up to that point very carefully, so the student should never feel overwhelmed/5.

Nonlinear phenomena are important in many fields, including dynamical systems, fluid dynamics, materials science, statistical physics, and paritcel physics. The general principles developed in this text are applicable in a wide variety of fields in the natural and social : Paperback.

Nonlinear dynamics is the study of systems that are described by nonlinear equations of motion. Chaos is a topic of particular interest. space physics, and astronomy faculty; Students develop skills including data analysis, high-resolution laser spectroscopy, designing.

The book presents a self-contained treatment of the subject to suit the needs of students, teachers and researchers in physics, mathematics, engineering and applied sciences who wish to gain a broad knowledge of nonlinear dynamics. It describes fundamental concepts, theoretical procedures, experimental and numerical techniques and technological.

No one book contains all the relevant material. Here I list several resources, arranged by topic. My personal favorites are marked with a diamond (⋄). Dynamical Systems ⋄S. Strogatz, Nonlinear Dynamics and Chaos (Addison-Wesley, ) ⋄S.

Nonlinear Dynamics represents a wide interdisciplinary area of research dealing with a variety of “unusual” physical phenomena by means of nonlinear differential equations, discrete mappings, and related mathematical algorithms.

book is ideal for an introductory course at the junior/senior or first-year graduate level. It is also ideal for the scientist who has not had formal instruction in nonlinear dynamics, but who now desires to begin informal study. The prerequisites are multivariable calculus and introductory Size: 5MB.

The field of nonlinear dynamics and chaos has grown very much over the last few decades and is becoming more and more relevant in different disciplines. This book presents a clear and concise introduction to the field of nonlinear dynamics and chaos, suitable for graduate students in mathematics, physics, chemistry, engineering, and in natural.

Nonlinear Dynamics and Chaos in Astrophysics: A Festschrift in Honor of George Contopoulos (Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences) by Georgios Ioannou Kontopoulos (Editor), J.

Buchler (Editor), S. Gottesman (Editor), & ISBN ISBN Format: Hardcover. The first edition of this book was the first on the physics of DNA to go beyond the simple (simplified) linear approach, and it has since been found that the inclusion of nonlinear effects leads to a significantly improved interpretation of experimental data.

This new edition naturally retains this approach, but has been completely revised, updated and expanded to cover recent developments. System Upgrade on Tue, May 19th, at 2am (ET) During this period, E-commerce and registration of new users may not be available for up to 12 hours.

This book, which presents the peer-reviewed post-proceedings of CSNDD and CSNDDaddresses the important role that relevant concepts and tools from nonlinear and complex dynamics could play in present and future engineering applications.

This volume, the proceedings of the 16th Florida Workshop in Nonlinear Astronomy and Physics, emphasizes the cross-disciplinary nature of much current research in astronomy and physics in the area of Developments in one field can advance more quickly when information is available regarding parallel developments in other fields.

The book will be of interest to both theorists and experimentalists in nonlinear dynamics, statistical physics and stochastic processes. It also forms an ideal starting point for graduate students moving into this area. 18 chapters written by internationally recognized experts in this field provide in-depth introductions to fundamental aspects.

This textbook is aimed at newcomers to nonlinear dynamics and chaos, especially students taking a first course in the subject. The presentation stresses analytical methods, concrete examples, and geometric intuition. The theory is developed systematically, starting with first-order differential equations and their bifurcations, followed by phase plane analysis, limit cycles and their 5/5(1).
